About

Overview

This website automatically aggregates publications from members of the UK & Ireland Physics Higher Education Research (PER-HE) community. Rather than manually maintaining a list that quickly becomes outdated, we use ORCID profiles to keep the publication list current.

How it works

  1. Author list: Researchers in the community share their ORCID identifier, which is added to a CSV file in this repository.
  2. Automated fetching: A weekly GitHub Actions workflow runs a Python script that queries the ORCID public API for each author’s publications.
  3. Deduplication: Papers appearing on multiple authors’ profiles (collaborations) are merged into a single entry using their DOI.
  4. PER classification: Papers are automatically tagged as Physics Education Research based on the journal name and title keywords.
  5. Website generation: Quarto renders the data into this searchable, browsable website, deployed automatically to GitHub Pages.

Limitations

  • Only works added to an author’s ORCID profile will appear here.
  • Metadata quality depends on how entries were added to ORCID.
  • There is up to a 7-day delay between an ORCID update and this site updating.

Getting listed

If you are a member of the UK & Ireland PER community and would like your publications included, please contact us via per-he.org with your ORCID identifier.

Source code

The source code for this site is available on GitHub. It is written in Python and Quarto, and runs entirely on free GitHub infrastructure.

Acknowledgements

This site was inspired by the University of Glasgow’s MVLS Learning, Teaching and Scholarship Network publications page, which demonstrated this approach for a different research community. We are grateful to its authors for making their source code openly available.
